Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of waiving off loans worth Rs 16 lakh crore of his billionaire friends, and said the country will never forgive him for this "crime". In a post in Hindi on X, he said this money could have been used to cure the pain of Indians but was spent on creating hype for the ilk of those like 'Adanis'.
Gandhi said, "Injustice is being done to 90 percent Indians and the moment I called for checking this injustice, PM, BJP started attacking me."
This comes after a Sam Pitroda, the Chairman of Indian Overseas Congress earlier advocated for the implementation of an inheritance tax law in India.
Although, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, that it did not reflect the party's position.
"Surely, in a democracy an individual is at liberty to discuss, express, and debate his personal views. This does not mean that Mr. Pitroda's views always reflect the position of the Indian National Congress. Many times they do not," said Ramesh in a post on social media platform X.
