Polling of Tripura East Lok Sabha seat deferred to April 23
GUWAHATI: Election Commission of India (ECI) has deferred the polling date of Tripura East parliamentary constituency to April 23 from April 18 citing law and order problem.

The commission has deferred the date after it received reports from the Tripura chief electoral officer (CEO) and Special Police Observer (SPO) that the prevailing law and order situation in the state was not conductive for holding the election on the scheduled date on April 18.

ECI stated that it expected that law and order situation in the constituency to improve and become conducive for holding free and fair election with additional measures taken during this period.

During the first phase of poll on April 11 when Tripura west seat went to polls there were violence and several people were injured.

Political parties were demanding to re-look at the security arrangements.
