The Patna Lok Sabha seat is split into Patna Sahib and Patliputra after delimitation in 2008. The rural parts of the Patna district, particularly the western ones, are included in Pataliputra. RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav lost to JDU contender Dr. Ranjan Prasad Yadav for this seat in 2009.
