Parties in Ludhiana issued notices for MCC violations; Here's how many each party got and why

On Thursday, the District Election Officer of Ludhiana, Sakshi Sawhney, directed strict action against violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). As a result, seven notices were issued to political parties for MCC violations.

Violations Detected and Notices Issued
According to an official statement, three notices were issued to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and two notices each were served to the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by Assistant Returning Officers (AROs).


Assistant Returning Officer Ludhiana East and Joint MC Commissioner, Chetan Bunger, issued two notices to the AAP and one notice each to Congress and BJP. Bunger stated that various flying squads detected unauthorized banners/posters in the areas falling under Ludhiana East constituency, which belonged to these parties. These banners/posters did not carry the name of the printers, violating MCC and the Election Commission of India's guidelines. Bunger asked the parties to submit a reply within 24 hours, failing which action proceedings would be initiated. Notices were issued under Section 127 (1) and (2 (a) (b) of The Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Similarly, ARO North and EO GLADA, Ankur Mohindroo, issued three notices each to AAP, Indian National Congress, and BJP for MCC violations. The notices were served to the district presidents of the parties, who were asked to reply within 24 hours.

District Election Officer Sakshi Sawhney reiterated the administration's commitment to holding free, fair, transparent, and peaceful Lok Sabha Polls in Ludhiana. She directed all AROs to ensure strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct during elections.
