Modi won't be PM after June 4: Rahul Gandhi's 'guarantee'

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday that Narendra Modi will not become the next prime minister, calling it a "guarantee".

Addressing a rally in Modi's parliamentary constituency Varanasi, he said the contest here was not between a prime ministerial candidate and Congress nominee Ajay Rai because Modi will not return as PM.

"I am telling you with a guarantee that after June 4, Narendra Modiji will not be the prime minister of this country," Gandhi said.


"The contest between the two is intense and in this contest, Ajay Rai may win," he said. The rally was also addressed by Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav.

At a rally in Uttar Pradesh's Bansgaon with Yadav, the Congress leader also mocked the prime minister over his "sent by God" comment and said God sent Modi to help Adani and not the poor.

He said that an INDIA bloc government will end the 50% cap on reservation while asserting that the alliance will protect the Constitution with "dil, jaan aur khoon".

Holding up a copy of the Constitution and photograph of Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Gandhi said Ambedkar dedicated his life to the Constitution. "Dalits faced atrocities for years. In our Constitution, they were given honour. But now, BJP says they will tear apart Ambedkar's work. No force can dare to tear the constitution of Ambedkar and Nehru," he said.
