Manmohan Singh was not as strong as PM Narendra Modi in dealing with terror: Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit
Just weeks ahead of Lok Sabha elections, the comment is expected to ignite a political row

“It has to be agreed that Manmohan Singh was not as strong and determined in dealing with terrorism as the current prime minister is,” Shiela Dikshit said in an interview to CNN-News 18, when asked about the then Congress government’s stand after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. However, Dikshit said action taken by PM Modi was a political stunt.
Just weeks ahead of Lok Sabha elections, the comment is expected to ignite a political row as grand old party is already facing criticism over party's stand on armed forces and India's air strike on Balakot.
Congress leader Tom Vadakkan's today quit Congress to join BJP saying that he was sad with his former party's stance over armed forces.
The BJP has countered Congress by saying that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been more decisive and strong in comparison of earlier Congress Prime Ministers including his predecessor Manmohan Singh. The party cites instances of UPA government inaction after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and Mumbai local train serial bombings in comparison to immediate strikes by India after the Uri terror attack and more recent Pulwama attack to prove its case.
Congress on the other hand has accused the Modi government of politicising the surgical strikes and use of armed forces for electoral gains.
