Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh on Thursday, took a swipe at Congress on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The PM said that Congress persecuted refugees for decades and never paid serious attention to their needs.

"It's Modi who has unmasked you. You are a hypocrite, communal. You left this nation in communal fire for 60 years. I am saying it clearly, it's Modi's guarantee. I dare you...you can't end CAA," he said.

"The work of giving citizenship to those who are victims of partition has already started under CAA," he added.

Modi further said that the whole world is recognising the power of India's democracy.

"I am seeing for the first time that news regarding the festival of democracy in India is all over on the first page of the newspapers in the world. It's evidence of how much importance India's identity has for the world. The world is watching that the people's blessings are with BJP-NDA and on all our friends," he said.
