Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 3: Voter turnout stands at 64.5%; highest in Assam, lowest in UP

The third phase of the Lok Sabha elections concluded in 93 constituencies spanning across 11 states, with a recorded voter turnout of 64.58 percent. The voting process commenced at 7 am on Tuesday.

According to data available on the Election Commission of India's Voter Turnout app, Assam emerged with the highest voter turnout at 81.71 percent. Conversely, Uttar Pradesh reported the lowest turnout at 57 percent.

The voter turnout recorded across the country till 3 pm:

• Madhya Pradesh- 66%
• Chhattisgarh- 71%
• Maharashtra- 61%
• Gujarat-59.5%
• Bihar-58%
• Assam- 81.7%
• Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu-69.8%
• Goa- 75%
• Karnataka- 70%
• Uttar Pradesh- 57%

Originally, voting was scheduled to be held on 94 Lok Sabha seats in the third phase. However, polling will not take place for Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat on Tuesday as the Election Commission of India (ECI) has postponed the polling to the sixth phase to be held on May 25.

Key contenders include Union Home Minister Amit Shah from Gujarat's Gandhinagar, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia from Madhya Pradesh's Guna, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from West Bengal's Baharampur, facing off against former cricketer Yusuf Pathan of the Trinamool Congress, Congress heavyweight Digvijaya Singh from Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh, Samajwadi Party's Dimple Yadav from Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri, Aditya Yadav from Budaun, and NCP-SP's Supriya Sule, who is contesting against her sister-in-law, Sunetra Pawar, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, in the family stronghold of Baramati, among others.

The Election Commission of India has implemented stringent security measures to safeguard the fairness of the electoral process, ensuring a conducive environment for voting. Approximately 18.5 lakh polling officials have been stationed at 1.85 lakh polling stations to facilitate the participation of over 17.24 crore voters, comprising 8.85 crore males and 8.39 crore females. This phase features more than 1,300 candidates, including 120 women.
