Traditionally aligned with the Indian National Congress (INC), the Karnal Lok Sabha constituency has seen the INC emerge victorious on nine occasions since 1952. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured victory four times. Presently, Sanjay Bhatia from the BJP serves as the Member of Parliament for Karnal.

Results of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections:
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Sanjay Bhatia clinched victory for the BJP, defeating Kuldeep Sharma of the INC by an impressive margin of 6,56,142 votes. Bhatia garnered 911,594 votes (71%), while Sharma secured 255,452 votes (20%).

Results of the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections:
The 2014 Lok Sabha elections witnessed Ashwini Kumar of the BJP securing triumph over Arvind Kumar Sharma of the INC, with a margin of 3,60,147 votes. Kumar garnered 594,817 votes (59%), while Sharma received 234,670 votes (23%).

In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Arvind Kumar Sharma of the INC defeated Maratha Virendra Verma of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) by a margin of 76,346 votes. Sharma secured 304,698 votes (38%), while Verma received 228,352 votes (28%).
