Over the years, Jorhat has been represented by various political parties. Bijoy Krishna Handique of the INC won the constituency in 1999, 2004, and 2009, while Kamakhya Prasad Tasa of the BJP won in 2014. Topon Kumar Gogoi's victory in 2019 continued the BJP's hold on the seat.
