Janata Dal (United) will contest Lok Sabha polls of 2019 from Assam and Manipur

GUWAHATI: Bihar based Janata Dal (United) will contest lok Sabha polls of 2019 from Assam and Manipur.

JDU has a MLA in Nagaland and is part of BJP led ruling coalition. It has organisational set up on Manipur.

Dr Afaque Ahmad Khan, General secretary in charge of Northeast of JDU in a statement stated, “JD (U) will participate in the forthcoming parliamentary election in both the states of Assam and Manipur with prospective candidates.”


He added that party will contest on the agenda of Secularism and development. “The party will constitute an adhoc committee to conduct the election after the national executive council meeting at Patna on March 4.”

JDU has opposed Citizenship Amendment bill and send a high level delegation to Northeast India recently where it met organisations opposing the bill. JDU was part of 11 parties opposing the bill.

Khan added, “JDU takes this opportunity to congratulate the people of Northeast states for their united and steadfast fight and opposition to the bill. The party is overwhelmed to witness unflinching support to the movement against the bill from all quarters and from all walks of lives.”

The party cautioned that the battle against communal forces is not over and Northeast people must not remain complacent but must continue to be alert and determined in thwarting any such communal agenda that may come in any form.
