Bhagat Singh was hung to death, I am ready to do the same: Kejriwal before going back to Tihar jail
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal denounced the Narendra Modi government as he prepared to return to Tihar jail, comparing his situation to Bhagat Singh's sacrifice. Facing money laundering charges, he thanked the Supreme Court for bail during ...
The Aam Aadmi Party's national convenor claimed that the case filed against him by the Enforcement Directorate in the Excise Policy case, is false. He is being probed for money laundering charges and was arrested for the same on March 20. He was let out on bail by the Supreme Court to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. His bail ended on June 1 and he was asked to surrender on June 2.
"Supreme Court granted me bail for 21 days to campaign for elections. I want to thank SC for that. Today, I am going to Tihar Jail again. I did not waste even a minute of these 21 days. I did not campaign only for AAP but for various parties. I went to Mumbai, Haryana, UP, Jharkhand...AAP is not important, for us the country is important," Kejriwal said in a public address ahead of surrendering.
"I want to say to the people of Delhi that I am going to jail again, not because I have done a scam but because I have raised my voice against dictatorship...PM Modi accepted this in front of the country that he does not have any evidence against me," he added.
The Delhi CM had earlier moved the Supreme Court for an extension of interim bail. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court rejected his plea, stating that since he was given liberty to move the trial court for regular bail, the plea here is not maintainable.
Meanwhile, Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday reserved the order on the interim bail plea moved by Kejriwal, citing medical reasons in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam.
The court fixed June 5 for the pronouncement of the order on the plea seeking 7-day bail, while refused to pass the order today itself as requested by Kejriwal's Lawyer.
