The bustling campaign trails in Guna Lok Sabha, one of the key battlegrounds in Madhya Pradesh, came to a halt on the evening of May 5th. The spotlight now shifts to the upcoming voting day on May 7th. The constituency is witnessing an intriguing contest, with Jyotiraditya Scindia of the royal family contesting from the BJP and Rao Yadvendra Singh Yadav from the Congress party.

The electoral battle in Guna is particularly interesting as Scindia faced defeat in the 2019 elections. Back then, he contested under the Congress banner against KP Yadav, a rebel Congress candidate. However, the scenario has changed this time around, with Scindia now being a part of the BJP. The question on everyone's mind is whether Scindia will be able to reclaim his erstwhile stronghold this time.

Jyotiraditya Scindia's main competitor from the Congress party in the Guna Lok Sabha constituency is Rao Yadvendra Singh Yadav. Yadav, a former BJP member, switched to the Congress party just before the 2023 assembly elections. His late father, Deshraj Singh Yadav, was a BJP MLA. Interestingly, Deshraj Singh Yadav had also contested the Lok Sabha elections against Jyotiraditya Scindia in the past.


The Yadav family is known to have a significant influence in Ashoknagar. Six members of the family are actively involved in politics, showcasing their deep-rooted presence in the region. Yadvendra Singh himself serves as a district panchayat member, while his wife, brother, and mother also hold positions as district members.

In the first list of BJP with 195 candidates, the Civil Aviation Minister turned out to be a surprise ticket as Scindia had lost the constituency. The grand old party has yet to announce names for the Guna seat.
