Mahanta had opposed renewing ties between AGP and BJP. AGP has severed ties with BJP led government after bill was passed in Lok Sabha on January 8.
Guwahati: Former Assam chief minister and founder president of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Prafulla Kumar Mahanta as a mark of protest against the citizenship amendment bill did not cast his vote on Thursday.

Mahanta along with his wife Jayshree Mahanta have their names in the electoral roll in Nagaon parliamentary seat decided not to vote. Mahanta said, “ I thought the Prime minister, Narendra Modi will reconsider his decision on the bill however the Prime minister has reiterated that bill will tabled once BJP comes to power.”

Mahanta had opposed renewing ties between AGP and BJP. AGP has severed ties with BJP led government after bill was passed in Lok Sabha on January 8. Mahanta had announced that as mark of protest he will not campaign in the Lok Sabha polls.
