Five years of Modi government a period of false promises: Congress
Rahul Gandhi hit out at the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing them of diverting attention from the real issues of unemployment and farm crisis.

GANDHINAGAR: Congress leaders held their working committee meeting in Gujarat on Tuesday after a 58-year hiatus, starting with a prayer at Sabarmati Ashram before moving to Sardar Patel memorial to set the campaign tone for the general election.
Later at a rally in Adalaj, near Gandhinagar, party president Rahul Gandhi hit out at the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing them of diverting attention from the real issues of unemployment and farm crisis.
In the resolution passed by the CWC, the party recalled the leaders of the freedom struggle, including Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Patel, and “their unflinching commitment to the unity of the Indian people and in upholding the composite culture of our multilingual, multi-religious and multi-cultural society”.
“They all believed in harmonious coexistence of Indian people, celebrated its pluralism, and firmly rejected the divisive and pernicious ideology of Hindutva propagated by the RSS and its affiliates,” read the resolution. “Prime Minister Modi and the BJP are insulting their struggle, sacrifices and enormous contribution in nation building by brazenly seeking to hijack their legacy and pretending to be the champions of their values,” it said.
Setting the campaign tone and agenda for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election, the resolution targeted the prime minister for “cynically exploiting the issue of national security to divert attention from his colossal failures, bogus claims and persistent falsehoods”. “Five years of Modi-BJP government has been a period of false promises and betrayal of people's trust and confidence,” it said.
