Fight for votes enters fourth round

Polling will be held on Monday for the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha election in 72 parliamentary constituencies across nine states. BJP’s tally in these seats was 45 in 2014 while 11 were won by NDA partners Shiv Sena (9) & LJP (2).

Elections for 69% of Lok Sabha seats will be completed today.

BJP in direct fight with Congress in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the two states it lost to GOP in the recent assembly polls.


Polling in Maharashtra and Odisha to end today with voting on 17 and 6 seats, respectively, in this phase; after this round, voting will be over in 24 states and Union Territories.

Polling will begin today in 13 of Rajasthan’s 25 seats,6 of MP’s 29 seats and 3 of Jharkhand’s 14 seats.

13 constituencies in UP’s central and Bundelkhand regions will also go to polls today.

West Bengal will see voting for 8 seats.

ETAWAH (SC): Ram Shankar Katheria of BJP is taking on former colleague (sitting MP) Ashok Kumar Dohare, who is fighting on a Cong ticket this time.

KANNAUJ: Dimple Yadav of SP vs Subrat Pathak of BJP.

KANPUR: Sriprakash Jaiswal (Cong) vs UP minister Satyadev Pachauri (BJP). The seat was held by Murli Manohar Joshi.

WEST BENGAL
ASANSOL: Union minister Babul Supriyo contesting against TMC’s celebrity candidate Moon Moon Sen. Also in the fray: CPM’s Gouranga Chatterjee and Cong’s Biswarup Mondal.

BURDWAN-DURGAPUR: Trinamool’s Mamtaz Sanghamita is contesting against BJP’s SS Ahluwalia. Also in the fray: Cong’s Ranajit Mukherjee and CPM’s Abhas Ray Chaudhuri.
