The Election Commission of India (ECI) is gearing up to announce the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections 2024, with an expected announcement after March 13, as per a report by India Today. ECI teams are currently on the ground, assessing the election readiness of various states, and are likely to conclude their assessment by March 13.
Senior officials of the Election Commission of India are actively engaging in regular meetings with the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of different states to address potential issues ahead of the elections. The focus is on practical challenges such as the transportation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the deployment of security personnel, and maintaining vigilance along state borders.
As per the reports citing sources, the EC teams are scheduled to visit states like West Bengal, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and others in the upcoming weeks. The visit to Jammu and Kashmir is reportedly planned for March 13.
Efforts are also underway to explore the feasibility of conducting simultaneous elections across the country. A High-Level Committee chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind recently met to review its activities in this regard. The One Nation One Election team also held consultations with former Chief Justices Deepak Mishra and SA Bobde.
Several states, including Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh, are preparing to hold simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly polls in the coming months.
