Vibhakar Shastri, Grandson of Lal Bahadur Shastri, joins BJP after quitting Congress
The grandson of the late prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, Vibhakar Shastri, announced his resignation from the Congress on Wednesday. He later on joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in Lucknow.

"Hon'ble Congress President Shri Kharge ji!" Shastri wrote in a post on X. Regards, Vibhakar Shastri. Respected Sir, I hereby present my resignation from the Indian National Congress primary membership."

Shastri has unsuccessfully run for Lok Sabha before. He is the son of Hari Krishna Shastri and the grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.


In the past few years, there have been a number of departures from the Congress, including Ashok Chavan, Milind Deora, Baba Siddiqui, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasad, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Sushmita Dev, RPN Singh, and Jaiveer Shergill, among others, who joined other political organisations.
