Election Commission to announce Lok Sabha poll schedule today at 5 pm
The model code of conduct will come into effect as soon as the Election Commission makes the announcement.

The Commission will also announce the poll schedule for assembly elections in the states of Odisha, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
While elections are also due in Jammu & Kashmir, the EC will announce its decision on the same today after carefully considering the security requirements and the state’s readiness for the conduct of polls.
With the announcement of polls, the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect from this evening bringing political advertising, campaigning and general conduct of political parties and leaders under the EC’s scrutiny.
The EC had also swung into action on 9th March after it issued a reminder to all political parties to ‘desist’ from using pictures of defence personnel in political advertisements. The BJP had used pictures of the Indian Air Force Pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman in some of its publicity material sparking an outcry.
The alleged delay in announcement of polls by the EC was being called into question by many political leaders who were alleging that this allowed the PM to continue announcing sops and inaugurating projects for longer than usual.
However, the EC’s internal assessments showed that it had the window to announce Lok Sabha election until 15th March as the next Lok Sabha is to be constituted by 3rd June, 2019.
