EC has a message for star campaigners of national parties: Don't vitiate delicate fabric of society

The Election Commission on Tuesday made an appeal to the star campaigners of national political parties across India, asking them not not vitiate the 'delicate fabric of the society.'

"The leaders are primarily responsible for correcting the course of poll speeches to avoid a permanent dent on the country's social fabric," the commission said. It further said that the top leaders of political parties should set good examples of campaign discourse expected of them.

The ECI released a second reports on two months of enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. The first report was released on April 16, 2024.


EC said that in the last two months, it disposed of 90 per cent of the 425 complaints it received. EC is satisfied that overall in the last two months, the campaign space has been violence-free, less noisy, less cluttered and intrusive, free of inducement and ostentatiousness.
