Congress, BJP flags
Gandhinagar: Gujarat's former leader of opposition Paresh Dhanani has declared that he will contest from Rajkot in case Union minister Parshottam Rupala's nomination is not rescinded by the BJP.

The announcement assumes significance given his rivalry of more than two decades with Rupala and considering he had been reluctant to contest the election so far.

In the 2002 assembly election, he had defeated Rupala in Amreli, after which Rupala did not contest any assembly election.

While both Dhanani and Rupala belong to the Patidar community of Amreli, Rupala is from the Kadva sub-caste while Dhanani belongs to the Leuva sub-community, which dominates Rajkot Lok Sabha constituency.
