Even as suspense continues over BJP's choice for Benglauru South, the Congress has announced the name of senior leader BK Hariprasad, 65, for the prestigious seat which had been won by the BJP consistently since 1991.

In the 1999 Lok Sabha polls, he had lost to BJP's Ananth Kumar. Hariprasad was later picked for the Rajya Sabha, where he is still a sitting member.

The Congress did face problems to find a rival candidate for the BJP as senior leaders had declined.

Hariprasad, a commerce graduate from MES College in Bengaluru, has long stayed away from Karnataka politics, involving himself more with the All India Congress Committee (AICC) activities.
