GUWAHATI: With politicians make strong ground for polarisation of votes ahead of the crucial third phase of polls, BJP MLA from Hojai Shiladitya Dev said that Congress has become more muslim party than All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and Lok Sabha MP, Badruddin Ajmal also attempted to polarize and speaking at rally he said, “BJP disliked the beard and cap of Muslims.”

Shiladitya added, “Congress and AIUDF are no doubt the two sides of the same coin. But Congress has become more a Muslim party than the AIUDF. Congress has 25 legislators in Assam out of which 15 of them are Muslims. So, it becomes very clear that Congress is more for the Muslims,” Dev said.


Two minority dominated constituencies of Barpeta and Dhubri are going to polls on April 23, in Guwahati and Kokrajhar parliamentary constituencies minority voters are in substantial number. On Tuesday East Tripura seat will also go to polls.

Citing law and order problem, Election Commission deferred polls to East Tripura parliamentary seat from April 18 to April 23.

In Assam, a total of 74,77,062 eligible voters including 36,61,570 females and 157 third gender voters will seal the fate of 54 candidates in four constituencies while in Tripura 12, 61,879 voters will decide the fate of eight candidates who are in the fray of East Tripura seat.

While there are 17 candidates for Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency, 15 candidates are in fray for Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency, 13 candidates for Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency and nine candidates for the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency.

From Guwahati BJP has fielded former Mayor Queen Oja, Congress has given ticket to Bobeeta Sharma. Supreme Court advocates Upamanyu Hazarika, who has made infiltration as its main poll is contesting as independent candidate.

Across the four Lok Sabha seats in Assam there 9577 polling and around 200 companies of security forces are deployed.
