It’s victory of Chemistry over Arithmetic: Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday termed BJP’s electoral performance as a victory of the chemistry of social strength and values over poll arithmetic, even as he called on other parties to end their “political untouchability” of BJP.

Addressing BJP workers in this temple town that has sent him to Parliament for the second straight time with a margin of 4.79 lakh votes, Modi said the “pardarshita” (transparency) and “parisharam” (hard work) put in by the party enabled it to defeat the wrong perception created about it in the past.

“We may have shortcomings, but our intentions are good,” Modi said in his thanksgiving speech at ‘Pandit Deendayal Hastkul Sankul’ in Varanasi. “Political analysts will have to accept that beyond poll arithmetic, there is chemistry,” Modi said. “It is the victory of chemistry over arithmetic.”

Modi said the BJP was a victim of violence, as he referred to alleged killings of party workers in Bengal, apart from Tripura and Kerala in the past.

He underlined the need for protecting legacy as well as working for the country with a modern vision. He said his government believed in the slogan of “sarvajan hitay, sarvajan sukhay.”

Describing BJP as a truly democratic party, he said the voice of opposition must also be heard in a democracy. In an attempt to directly connect with party workers, he said his mantra was satisfaction of the party workers and he appreciated their efforts for his victory in Varanasi. “Work and workers create wonders,” he said.

BJP chief Amit Shah said the government would take up many development works in Varanasi in the next five years. Earlier, Modi visited the Kashi Vishwanath temple and offered prayers. Crowds lined up on both sides of the road and on rooftops to catch a glimpse of the prime minister, as his motorcade travelled to the temple.
