Guwahati: Three prominent leaders of BJP in Tripura including party’s vice president Subal Bhowmik quit the party and joined Congress.

The two other leaders who joined Congress are former Minister Prakash Das and Debashish Sen.

Bhowmik joined BJP in 2015. He is likely to party’s candidate for West Tripura Lok Sabha seat.

Bhowmik while talking to media persons said he along with several of supporters have joined BJP as in last one year rule BJP led government has performed poorly.

He said, “In violation of party’s constitution Biplab Kumar Deb is holding the two post of chief minister and party president. Deb’s comments and work has upset the people of the state. I was in Congress for 35 years. Before Deb returned to Tripura in 2016, I led the BJP but I have been humiliated by the newcomers."

Congress President Rahul Gandhi will address an election rally in Tripura on Wednesday. Tripura West Lok Sabha seat goes to the polls on April 11 in the first phase of the general elections, and Tripura East on April 18 in the second phase.
