BJP releases 10th list of candidates, drops sitting MP Kirron Kher from Chandigarh, fields SS Ahluwalia from Asansol

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday released its tenth list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In the list, BJP has announced names of 9 candidates, seven in Uttar Pradesh, one each in Chandigarh and West Bengal.

The saffron party dropped sitting MP Kirron Kher from Chandigarh and has fielded Sanjay Tandon in her place. Former Union Minister SS Ahluwalia has been given ticket from West Bengal's Asansol, replacing Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh.

Ahluwalia currently represents Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal.


The party has given a ticket to Neeraj Shekhar, son of former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar, from the Balia Lok Sabha seat.

BJP has fielded Jaiveer Singh against Dimple Yadav from Mainpuri constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh, who had initially withdrawn his candidacy from Asansol, had announced that he will contest polls. Making his intentions clear via the social media platform X, Singh expressed his desire to contest the elections, seeking the support and blessings of the public. In a tweet, Singh affirmed, "I will contest elections to fulfill the promise made to people."

However, Singh didn't divulge the specific constituency and the political party under which he will contest the polls.

The voting will begin on April 19 and the results will be declared on June 4, 2024. The term of the 17th Lok Sabha assembly will expire on June 16, 2024. The elections will be held in seven phases. The first phase to be held on April 19, second phase on April 26, third phase on May 7, the fourth phase on May 13, fifth phase on May 20, sixth phase on May 25 and the seventh phase on June 1, 2024.
