The Bharatiya Janata Party while announcing the manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections said that the party will ensure that the Ayushman Bharat scheme covers people from the transgender community and all senior citizens over 70 years of age.

"The BJP is resolved to bring all senior citizens above 70 years of age under Ayushman Bharat scheme," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday.

The scheme, a flagship offering of the Central government, provides cover of Rs 5 lakh to around 80 crore people across India. It was originally launched by former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley during FY19 Union Budget announcement.


"We will expand the Ayushman Bharat Yojana to cover Senior Citizens and provide them access to free and quality healthcare," BJP said in its manifesto.
