Bengaluru South Lok Sabha Elections: Results in 2019, 2014, 2009
The BJP's grip on Bengaluru South began in 1991. K Venkatagiri Gowda, a renowned economist, secured the seat for the party for the first time, marking a turning point. Prior to this, legal experts, freedom fighters, chief ministers, and senior economists dominated the constituency.
Ananth Kumar, a young BJP candidate fielded in 1996, went on to win five consecutive terms. Notably, all his opponents belonged to the Congress party. He emerged as a powerful and influential figure in Karnataka politics, serving in both the Vajpayee and Modi governments.
Sadly, Ananth Kumar passed away in 2018. In the 2019 elections, the BJP, forced to field a new candidate, chose Tejasvi Surya. At 29, Surya became one of the youngest MPs in the 17th Lok Sabha after winning by a margin of over 3.3 lakh votes.
Notably, in the last 2019 elections, BJP candidate Tejasvi Surya secured a resounding victory in his constituency, garnering over 739,229 votes, which accounted for a significant 62.20% of the total votes cast. On the other hand, the INC candidate, B. K. Hariprasad, faced a comparatively challenging contest, securing 4,08,037 votes, without achieving victory in the election.
