Ahead of first phase parliamentary polls a patrol of three vehicles of Assam Rifles moving from Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh to Margherita in Assam was ambushed near Namdhang, one personel of Assam Rifles was injured.

A defence spokesperson said that a vehicle mounted patrol of three vehicles of Assam Rifles moving from Changlang towards Margherita was ambushed by unknown personnel near Namdhang at around 8 :30 am on Tuesday.

The troops retaliated and thwarted the ambush. In the process one person sustained Gun Shot Wounds. The individual has been evacuated to Military Hospital Jorhat and his condition is stable.


Proscribed militant outfit ULFA (independent) has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a statement mailed to some media houses, Rumel Axom, a self-proclaimed captain of ULFA-I alleged that several 13th Assam Rifles vehicles were damaged, and multiple soldiers were seriously injured.

He claimed that media access to the area was restricted by security forces.

Ulfa independent which is also known as anti talk faction of ULFA is active in Upper Assam district of Tinsukia which shares border with Arunachal Pradesh.

Five seats in Assam and two lok sabha seats will go to first phase of Lok sabha polls on April 19.Arunachal will also witness assembly election on April 19.
