SRINAGAR: Kulgam district of Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency, the only seat in the country where polling is being conducted in three phases owing to security reasons, witnessed the lowest voter turnout of 10.3% on Monday.

The turnout in the Valley has seen a dip since the first phase, when Baramulla in northern Kashmir witnessed around 35% polling, followed by Srinagar in central Kashmir recording around 14% while the first leg of the election in Anantnag district in southern Kashmir witnessed 13.63% polling.

The Anantnag parliamentary constituency is spread over four districts.

While polling in Anantnag district was held on April 23, Pulwama and Shopian districts will go to the polls on May 6. “Shopian and Pulwama are challenging. We are confident that we will be able to conduct peaceful election there,” J&K chief electoral officer Shailendra Kumar said.
