All India United Democratic Front will contest three of the 14 parliamentary seats in Assam

AIUDF to contest 3 Assam seats, approached Congress. BJP won 9 seats in 2019. Himanta Biswa Sarma predicts BJP victory in 13 out of 14 Lok Sabha seats, excluding Dhubri.

The minority based All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) will contest three of the 14 parliamentary seats in the State. These are western Assam’s Dhubri, southern Assam’s Karimganj, and central Assam’s Nagaon where Muslims are a major voting force.

Chief of AIUDF Maulana Badruddin Ajmal will contest from Dhubri, he is the sitting MP. Sahabul Islam Choudhary has been nominated for the Karimganj parliamentary constituency, while Aminul Islam is set to represent the party in the Nagaon parliamentary constituency.

AIUDF made repeated overtures to Congress for alliance however Congress party turned down the proposal.


In 2019 BJP contested 10 parliamentary seats while AGP (AGP) contested three seats and its then ally Bodoland People’s Front contested one seat.

In 2019 parliamentary polls BJP in Assam increased its tally from seven of 2014 to nine in 2019, across Northeast India BJP which won eight seats in the last parliamentary election increased the seat tally to 14 in 2019. Together with allies, BJP won 18 seats out of 25 seats, the best ever performance of the Saffron party in the region.

While All India United Democratic Front won one seat, one seat was won by Independents in Assam. AGP drew blank. Congress party wrested three seats.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that BJP and its allies will win 13 Lok Sabha seats out of 14 seats. “Only the Dhubri seat we will not win. I will not even campaign in this seat however in assembly polls we will win four assembly seats in this parliamentary seat.”
