Alappuzha Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Schedule, Key candidates and all you need to know

Kerala's Alappuzha is part of the 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state that will go for vote under second phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 26. The voter turnout in the 2019 Parliament election was impressive at "80.35 percent". Alappuzha has undergone two name changes and witnessed 11 different representatives since 1952. Currently held by the Communist Party of India (CPI), this seat has primarily oscillated between two parties, the CPI and the Congress, since 1977 when it adopted its current name.

Alappuzha Lok Sabha Election 2024: Candidates

The upcoming 2024 election will feature a contest between the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, K C Venugopal, Shobha Surendran from Bharatiya Janata Party, and the CPI incumbent A.M. Ariff, who narrowly won the previous election in 2014 by a margin of 10,000 votes.

Alappuzha Lok Sabha Election 2024: Candidates

Scheduled for April 26, 2024, the elections in Kerala will elect 20 members to the 18th Lok Sabha. Given the tight competition observed in the previous election, where the Congress and CPI were closely matched, expectations run high for a similar outcome this year, especially with a prominent Congress figure entering the fray.

Alappuzha Lok Sabha Election 2024: 2019 Result

In the 2019 General Assembly Elections, Alappuzha saw a highly competitive contest with an impressive "80.09 per cent" voter turnout. CPI(M) candidate Adv. A M Ariff emerged victorious in the 2019 General Election, securing 4,45,970 votes with a margin of 10,474 votes. Adv. A M Ariff defeated Adv. Shanimol Osman of the INC, who received 4,35,496 votes.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Adv. A M Ariff of CPIM emerged victorious in Alappuzha, obtaining 445,970 votes. CPIM's victory surpassed that of INC's Adv. Shanimol Osman, who received 435,496 votes. CPIM attained a vote share of 41 percent in the constituency.
