Aiudf wants understanding with congress to stop BJP

Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and MP Badruddin Ajmal has urged Congress to have understanding in polls to stop BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

AIUDF won three seats in 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Ajmal said across all the constituencies AIUDF has two lakh to 2.5 lakh votes which is very crucial in determining the outcome of the constituency.

“We are eager to help if Congress really wants our help. We can sacrifice anything, even our electoral prospect, to stop the BJP, “Ajmal said.


Ajmal said he has forgotten what Gogoi said and is ready for new relationships. Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi in 2011 assembly polls attacked Ajmal saying “who is Ajmal”.

Aiudf has announced candidates for three seats. Ajmal will seek re-election from Dhubri, Also AIUDF’s sitting MP, Radheshyam Biswas will seek reelection from Karimganj.

For Barpeta seat Aiudf has dropped sitting mp Sirajudin Ajmal and given ticket to Hafiz Rafiqul Islam.

Aiudf will contest eight seats. Ajmal said that party may consider not fielding candidates in remaining five seats if Congress comes with an understanding.

Congress, however, alleged that BJP and Aiudf have tactic understanding. BJP is making counter allegation that Congress and Aiudf has tacit understanding.

Congress has decided to contest all the 14 seats in Assam.
