Video: YSRCP leader involved in 'thappad baazi' with voter at Andhra Pradesh's Guntur polling booth

Tenali (Guntur): An incident of physical altercation between YSRCP leader VS Shivakumar and a voter at a polling booth in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, has sparked controversy. Video footage circulating online shows the leader engaged in a slapping confrontation with the voter, highlighting tensions surrounding the ongoing election process.

The incident unfolded when the voter, queued to cast his vote, objected to the MLA's attempt to jump the line and cast his vote without waiting, leading to a physical altercation initiated by the MLA.


Not pleased at the MLA being slapped, his supporters vented out their anger on the man.

"He (the YSRCP MLA) was going to vote and he jumped the queue so somebody (voter) objected," a police official told PTI about the incident which resulted in the skirmish.

According to police, there was an argument between the MLA and the voter before Kumar hit him.

After the voter retaliated, the MLA's supporters launched an indiscriminate attack on the voter, raining punches until police and other voters stepped in to stop the assault.

TDP lodged a complaint with the Election Commission over the incident.

Early voters in Andhra Pradesh included Governor S Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, and TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu, along with their families.



In the state, the YSRCP, led by Jagan, is contesting all 175 Assembly seats, while the NDA is dividing its seats among the Telugu Desam Party, Jana Sena Party, and Bharatiya Janata Party.

The TDP is contesting 144 Assembly seats, the BJP has 10, and the Pawan Kalyan-led Janasena has 21.

Several celebrities participated in Monday's polls, including Pawan Kalyan in the Mangalagiri Assembly constituency and actor Balakrishna in the Hindupur constituency, where he is also contesting.
