World Bank assistance sought for implementing environmental projects: Prakash Javadekar

NEW DELHI: The Centre today said assistance has been sought from the World Bank for implementing various environmental projects.

Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Environment Prakash Javadekar said assistance to the tune of 35 million US dollars has been sought for the partial risk guarantee mechanism to promote the adoption and implementation of innovative low carbon technologies.

Besides, 25 million dollars has been sought for climate resilience through community-based approaches to livelihood adaption in semi-arid states of India.

As far as the ongoing projects are concerned, 1000 million dollars has been sought from the World Bank for the National Ganga River Basin Project, of which 64.74 million dollars have been released.

To another question, Javadekar said assistance for pollution control projects such as capacity building for industrial pollution management project has been sought from the World Bank.

The Minister added financial assistance has been sought from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the Ganga Action Plan and 161.11 million yen provided for the purpose.
