Employee unions can submit demands pertaining to the eighth pay commission for another month, M Raghavaiah, Leader (Staff side) at the National Council (Staff Side) Joint Consultative Machinery (NC JCM) said Friday. Speaking to journalists in New Delhi, he said employee unions have demanded effectively doubling minimum pay from around Rs 30,000 per month currently to Rs 69,000 per month, payable from January 1, 2026.

“The centre has agreed to employee unions demand for more time to collate responses during the consultative process on eighth pay commission,” Raghavaiah said adding the responses can now be submitted till May 31, 2026.

Indian government is currently negotiating with its worker unions as it finalises the latest wage revisions. A memorandum submitted by the NC JCM to the eighth Central Pay Commission (CPC), has computed the minimum pay assuming a five-unit family. Workers are demanding the fitment formula for the existing employees and pensioners should be 3.833. The current minimum pay band for central government employees - based on a three-member family - is 18,000- 56,900. Seventh Pay Commission introduced a fitment factor of 2.57, raising the minimum basic pay to Rs 17,990 from Rs 7,000.
