MUMBAI: The government has introduced a new series of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes which have added security features that were not there in the older series. The objective is to prevent fraudsters from printing fake currencies while reducing the government’s printing cost effectively.

The newly-design bank notes are distinctly different from the current Mahatma Gandhi series of bank notes -- in colour, size and theme.

Brief synopsis:

More Security Features - Gandhi's face

New notes present the whole face of the father of the nation while the earlier series had a diagonal look.
