WB Govt forms VAT amendment panel

The commercial taxes department of the West Bengal government has formed a VAT amendment panel to give specific suggestions on improving the procedures.

KOLKATA: The commercial taxes department of the West Bengal government has formed a VAT amendment panel to give specific suggestions on improving the procedures and simplifying the net system of indirect taxation.

Speaking at the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce here today, West Bengal commercial taxes commissioner C M Bachhawat said the panel would see how the VAT system could benefit the traders.

He said the new taxation system had been introduced to make simplify things, which would ultimately lead to better compliance.

Bachhawat said applications for registrations would be simplified for re-sellers and works contracts.

The official said that since VAT had been introduced only in April, complete changes could not be affected, for which the VAT amendment panel would give the required suggestions.

He also urged the traders for timely filing of returns so that refunds could be given on time.
