DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand government today approved proposals worth Rs 100 crore related to tourism infrastructure, including renovation of forts at Almora and Chamoli.

The approval was given at the 7th state-level committee meeting of Infrastructure Development and Investment Program for Tourism (IDIPT).

Presiding over the meeting, Chief Secretary N Ravishankar said the forts at Almora and Chamoli will be renovated and developed as heritage sites, according to an official statement.

'Kanwad' routes will be developed in Haridwar to provide improved facilities to pilgrims and tourists.

Toilet complexes, safety walls around canals and footpaths will be built for Shiva devotees, besides developing a robust waste disposal, lighting and drainage systems with an investment of Rs 24 crore, the Chief Secretary said at the meeting.

Besides this, Rs 3 crore will be provided to Durgadhar Temple and Rs 2 crore to Tungeshwar Temple for development.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Rakesh Sharma, Secretary Tourism Umakant Panwar, Secretary Urban Development D S Garbyal and Executive Director IDIPT Shailesh Bagoli, the statement added.
