Urjit Patel gets three more years as RBI deputy governor

Govt of India has re-appointed Urjit R. Patel as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, for a further period of three years effective from January 11.

MUMBAI: Government of India has re-appointed Urjit R. Patel as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, for a further period of three years effective from January 11, the central bank said on its website.

Patel has already served a three year term as deputy governor since January 11, 2013.

Prior to his appointment as deputy governor Patel was advisor (energy & infrastructure), The Boston Consulting Group.

52 year old Patel is a Ph.D. (Economics) from Yale University and M. Phil. from Oxford.

He has also worked at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) between 1990 and 1995 on the US, India, Bahamas and Myanmar desks. He was on deputation from the IMF to the RBI between 1996-97.
