Union Budget 2011: 'Budget favours only some states'

CHANDIGARH: Terming the Union Budget as "disappointing", Punjab unit of BJP on Monday said it favoured only a few states.

"The budget has disappointed the common man and most of the schemes announced are West Bengal and Kerala specific," Punjab Industries and Commerce Minister Manoranjan Kalia said here.

"It appears that the Union Minister is behaving like a minister of a particular state at the cost of other states of the country," he said.

"The Union Finance Minister stressed on agriculture, but he forgot that the problem lies with distribution and utilisation of food stocks available in abundant in the country," Kalia said.

He said though the Centre is proposing to introduce the Food Security Bill, they should rather set in order the distribution system.

He also said that the income tax ceiling hike from present Rs 1.60 lakh to Rs 1.80 lakh was "too meagre" in view of high inflation.
