Tripura CM Manik Sarkar woos investors, says land can be arranged in 48 hrs

AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today said the government would arrange land within 48 hours for investors willing to set up industries in the state.

Observing that communication bottleneck has become a big hurdle for industrialisation despite having many favourable conditions, he said more market linkages would be opened up as soon as transit and permission for using the Chittagong port is made available.

Without blaming any quarter, the Chief Minister said because the Teesta River Treaty was not signed, Bangladesh has not given his state the transit facilities for the port.

"Communication bottleneck can be removed if transit and permission for using the Chittagong port is available which would open market linkages for industries in the state," Sarkar said while addressing a investment promotion summit organised by industry body Assocham here.

He appealed to investors present at the summit to set up industries in the state and assured them that the state government would arrange land for them within 48 hours of their demand.

"You should judge both the positive and negative aspects, so that the industries set up here become viable and sustainable," he said.

The Chief Minister also said that Tripura, which is now a power surplus state, was keen on selling power to Bangladesh and a proposal in this regard has already been put forward to the Centre.

Tripura Industries and Commerce Minister Jitendra Chowdhury and Chairman of Assocham (Eastern Region) Sanjay Jhunjhunwala were also present at the event.
