Traders to observe nationwide dharna against VAT on Friday

NEW DELHI: In a bid to oppose the introduction of VAT from April one in the country, major trade unions will observe a nationwide dharna on Thursday.
"Trade associations across the country will observe VAT protest day tomorrow and shall organise protest sit-ins at more than 1500 places all over the country," spokesman of VAT Action Committee and General Secretary of Confederation of All India Trades (CAIT) Praveen Khandelwal said here today.
"There will be massive sit-ins at several places tomorrow where hundreds of small and big trade associations of Delhi belonging to wholesale and retail business will participate in the demonstration," Khandelwal said.
Similar sit-ins will be organised in several states at district headquarters, he added.
The stir is being organised under the banner of Bharat Udyog Vyapar Mandal, Khandelwal said.
