TN to procure 34.25 lakh colour TV sets

The Tamil Nadu government would procure 34.25 lakh colour television sets under its free colour TV distribution scheme for the poor in the third phase.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government would procure 34.25 lakh colour television sets under its free colour TV distribution scheme for the poor in the third phase.
Each of these sets would be purchased at Rs 2,197, an official press release said.
The price bids for purchase of sets were opened in the presence of a committee consisting of political parties in the state assembly.The meeting was presided by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the secretariat this evening.
Videocon would supply 20 lakh sets, Kitchen Appliances, Dixon Technologies and Air Vision India limited 3.25 lakh sets each, L P Electronics one lakh sets and Trend electronics, Jenus Electrotech, Belltech India, Bharati electronics, MIC electronics, Malhotra Electronics and East India Packaging limited 50,000 sets each, the release added.
Though the government had decided to procure only 30 lakh sets,the companies had quoted lesser amount, prompting the government to order more.The lesser prices had also saved Rs.162.90 crore to the state exchequer, the release added.
