TN Industrial Policy-2007 investment friendly: MCCI

The New Industrial Policy-2007 announced by the Tamil Nadu government would enable the state to remain an attractive and preferred destination for investments, Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry said.

CHENNAI: The New Industrial Policy-2007 announced by the Tamil Nadu government would enable the state to remain an attractive and preferred destination for investments, Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) on Tuesday said.

The state government should consider overall growth on a broader base for a more inclusive society. "Focus must shift outside the typical urban centres to the Tier 3 and Tier 4 towns and through them to the countryside," MCCI President Arun Bewoor said in a statement.

"The industrial policy does encourage this movement as it provides concessions and benefits for industrial units set up in these areas. Per capita incomes will then again double but the rising incomes will manifest themselves over larger sections of society and avocations," he said.

"The new industrial policy should allot priorities for agro industries for sustained growth of farm raw materials," he added.

He also stressed the need for more emphasis on infrastructure development.

Power and roads are the other two segments which must continue to receive attention, he said.
