TN drafts new policy for minor ports

The policy aims to increase the state’s share in export-import activities in national and international trade.

MUMBAI: The government of Tamil Nadu has formulated a new policy to develop its minor ports and to provide opportunity to the private sector for an active role in the development of them.

The policy aims to increase the state’s share in export-import activities in national and international trade. It would envisages decongesting major ports of Ennore, Chennai and Tuticorin with the help of developing ports with modern cargo-handling facilities.

The minor ports covered under the policy are: Cuddalore, Nagapatinam, Rameswaram, Pamban, Valinokkam, Kanyakumari, Colachel, Kattupalli, Ennore, Cheyyur, Thiruchopram, Silambimgalam Shipyard, Thirukkadaiyur, Thirukkuvalai, Punakayal, Manappad and other ports identified by Tamil Nadu Maritime Board.
