Telecom FDI guidelines shortly

NEW DELHI: Foreign Direct Investment guidelines for the telecom sector will be issued shortly, Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
"The National Common Minimum Programme declares that FDI will continue to be encouraged and actively sought, particularly in areas of infrastructure, hi-tech and exports. Telecommunications sector meets this description...The guidelines for FDI in telecom are expected shortly," Minister of State for Communications and IT Shakeel Ahmad said in a written reply.
To a query on circulation of obscene content through mobile phones, he said publishing of information, which is obscene in electronic form was covered under Section 67 of IT Act, 2000.
To another question, the minister said Department of Posts had asked the IT Department to include post offices in the scheme for setting up Rural Service Delivery Centres.
