Tamil Nadu drops Multi Industry SEZ proposal

The government would instead set up seven different industrial estates in its place.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu government has given up its proposal to set up a 'Multi Industry Special Economic Zone' at Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district, a brain child of former Union Minister late Murasoli Maran.

The government would set up seven different industrial estates in its place, an official release said today.

The decision was taken to effect speedy industrialisation of the backward southern districts of the state, it said.

A separate industrial zone for engineering industry would come up in 121 hectares and that for automobile spares in 110 hectares.

A software and hardware park would be set up in 107 hectares, pharmaceutical estate in 185 hectares, IT park in 10 hectares and a 13-hectare land would be set apart for bio-technology industries, an official release said.
