'Take steps to develop products with low carbon content'

As future products all over the world would have low carbon content, India should take steps to develop such products, R K Pachauri, chairman, Inter- governmental Panel on Climate Change said.

CHENNAI: As future products all over the world would have low carbon content, India should take steps to develop such products, failing which the country would not be able to find any markets, R K Pachauri, chairman, Inter- governmental Panel on Climate Change said on Saturday.

Speaking via video conference at the fourth Young Indians National Summit, organised by CII here, he said it was absolutely critical that people responsible for economic growth also take care of natural resources in the country, as progress would otherwise not be possible.

Pachauri also called upon the industry to adopt processes that were far more efficient in using water and added that there was a need to recycle scarce resources.

The chairman of the Nobel Peace Prize winning organisation called upon the younger generation to look at role models who built the economy like Infosys mentor N R Narayanamurthy and be inspired by the way they helped build the economy.

K V Kamath, Vice President, CII and ICICI chief said there was never a better time than now to have been born in India. "If we do not make any bad mistakes, the future is very bright for us," he said.

The major challenges however lay in the education sector and the need for 'right-skilling' of people.

"We have to introduce relevant curriculum and rewrite our curriculum. In every industry, there is a challenge of re-skilling," he said.

Kamath said that the insurance sector would be the biggest employer in future with one million jobs per year.
