NEW DELHI: The ministry of statistics and programme implementation (MoSPI) will launch the next Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) in January, making it a calendar-year exercise from there on, an official said.

The last survey was conducted between October 2023 and September 2024. The next survey will try to capture district-wise data also to help provide details on how unincorporated enterprises fuel local economies across districts.

Additionally, gross domestic product (GDP) figures, which are currently available at the national and state level, will be extended to the district level. The ministry is actively consulting with state governments to facilitate this transition.

Unincorporated establishments are non-agricultural enterprises, which are not registered under the Companies Act, 1956 or the Companies Act, 2013.

The last survey covered 498,024 establishments, of which 273,085 were from rural areas and 224,939 from urban areas. Its results, released this week, highlighted a 12.8% increase in the number of unincorporated establishments to 73.4 million in 2023-24 from 65.1 million in the year before. The services sector accounted for the largest share at 30.4 million establishments, followed by trade at 22.8 million and manufacturing at 20.1 million.
